Hook It

Hook = I've just gotta know what that's all about.

You can have the most eloquent, riveting prose that won't catch one glimpse if it doesn't have a hook.  The opposite is true also--your writing can be down right emabarassing, but if you have a great hook...

The truth is the hook is what grabs agents, publishers, and sales.

So.

I know my next project is a strong HOOK story.  My current project? I'm nervous about it. A hook is there, but I'm afraid it's a soft one.  Gets a "sounds cool" but doesn't spur "must know more."

Granted, the shelves are full of "sounds cool" stories, but when trying to make that breakthrough debut...

Not sure "sounds cool" is going to cut it.

Hmm.....
